A

Academic Achievement

Beginning in late elementary grades (4-6) academic failure increases the risk of both drug use and delinquency (Source:Arthur et al). Low Academic Achievement is measured by the Communities that Care construct of the same name within the School domain risk factors.

Action Plan

A plan developed by participants at the completion of training to show how they will use the information and skills learned after they return to their home, work, or community. The plan usually identifies the desired change, the resources that are available to help reach this goal, the obstacles that need to be overcome, specific steps and strategies, and a timeline for completing these steps. Source

Amphetamine

A stimulant drugs whose effects are very similar to cocaine. Amphetamine, dextroamphetamine, methamphetamine, and their various salts are collectively referred to as amphetamines. In fact, their chemical properties and actions are so similar that even experienced users have difficulty knowing which drug they have taken. Methamphetamine is the most commonly abused. Source

Anecdotal evidence

Information derived from a sjubjective report, observation, or example that may or may not be reliable but cannot be considered schientifically valid or representative of a larger group or of conditions in another location. Source

Assets

Assets i.e. developmental assets, as defined by the Search Institute are concrete, common sense, positive experiences and qualities essential to raising successful young people. These assets have the power during critical adolescent years to influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. Source

Asynchronous

Not occurring at the same time Source. A term often used in distance learning that refers to courses or content/activities available to participants for their completion anytime their schedules permit. The opposite is synchronous (same time) which is also referred to as real time.

Benchmark

A Benchmark is a particular indicator or performance goal, an industries measure of best performance. The benchmarking process identifies the best performance in the industry for a particular process or outcome, determines how that performance is achieved, and applies the lessons learned to improve performance elsewhere. Best Practice

Best practices are those ways of doing things that can described, shared and widely practiced and, over time, become a standard (norm) for consistently achieving the results we want.

Breadcrumb

A breadcrumb or breadcrumb trail is a path, usually at the top of a web page that shows the route a person has taken to get to the current page. Breadcrumbs usually allow users to backtrack to any of the levels they've visited. For example Teams> Program Inventory > SRS Services and Program Directory Charter.

Binge drinking

Binge drinking is the consumption of five or more alcoholic drinks in a row on at least one occasion. Source

Bootstrapping

Bootstrapping is the process of repeated subsampling, with replacement, from a larger sample, followed by analysis of each repeated subsample. Analyses with the subsample are used to estimate variances or standard errors of variables of interest (Vogt, 1993). Source
