The applicant for the SPF-SIG is the Governor's Office and the project is administered by the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS). The grant amount will be $2.63 million per year for five years. Eighty-five percent of the funding is for work at the community level and the remaining 15% is for state administration including hiring and epiemiologist and evaluators for the project. The grant includes funding for both needs assessment and infrastructure development and programming components.
The proposal SRS submitted was developed collaboratively with much input and feedback from state partners who are currently part of the SPF Advisory Council.
- Build capacity and infrastructure at the state and local level to sustain effective substance abuse prevention strategies.
- Delay onset of substance use, including childhood and underage drinking, and reduce the progression of substance abuse.
- Reduce substance abuse and related problems in targeted communities and at the population level.
- Develop a sustainable statewide Strategic Prevention Framework to sustain a multidisciplinary structure to enhance prevention programs, policies, and practices.
The Long-term outcomes identified by this project are:
Through a data-informed prioritization process and a facilitated discussion among SPF Advisory Council members, group consensus was achieved to determine that underage drinking would be addressed in Kansas through the SPF-SIG. Progress toward reducing underage drinking would be measured by two youth indicators: binge drinking and 30-day alcohol consumption.
