Policy Review Workgroup Charter

June 8, 2006

Project Description: This project will establish a consistent mechanism for reviewing new and existing policies through a prevention lens which would serve as a vehicle for integration of policies. Background/Rationale: During the surveys conducted for the Prevention Initiative, it was unclear through responses received if prevention was included or looked at when new policies were developed. It was also unclear if prevention was included or viewed as being part of current policies. Project Goals/Expected Value: New policies will be written with a focus on prevention and current policies will be reviewed for relevance and appropriateness and aligned with a prevention focus.

Scope: Identify or develop the tool to be used in writing and reviewing policy. Catalogue and review existing policy. Establish a protocol for review, writing and implementing policy.

Key Participants: To include senior administrators and individuals with fresh eyes - front line staff, contractors, etc. Current membership set out below.

Considerations & Resources: · Policies should balance rules and flexibility · Stakeholders should have a means of adding input · The learning template is the preferred tool/instrument · Policies should include the intent, rationale, cost & fiscal impact. · Policies should include the potential savings by having prevention as a focus. · Policies should be reviewed for alignment and integration with all divisions. · Policies should be written for the benefit of the customer. · Policies that embrace prevention will be more customer friendly and will produce long term savings. · Policy workgroup and the Prevention Initiative Charter Team will have valuable input. · Identify where policies and practices don’t match and correct one or the other.

Accountability/Reporting Structure: To be determined.

End Date: Determined based on start day and assessment of scope of project.
