The Communities That Care WIKI:About
From The Communities That Care WIKI
This group showed leadership and vision, persistence and commitment. The team held right intentions, challenged assumptions, suspended judgment, sought input and focused on a better future for the organization as it touches customers . . . For SRS employees to integrate prevention in their work, the organization must create an environment that supports the employee and prevention actions.

Purpose
The purpose of this virtual collaborative space (Wiki) is to provide a online learning lab or community of practice, in addition to the face-to-face environment, in which the team members can continue to advance the recommendations of the Prevention Initiative. This read/write environment supports both individual and collective learning, giving each person the opportunity to make their own unique contributions AND to sustain the progress of the collective.
Guiding Principles
The guiding principles used everyday in the work of SRS translate readily into this online environment. As we venture into this new environment, we fully expect to discover additional guiding principles specific to this environment and will add them here.
- Act with integrity and respect as we add, edit, clarify, question, explore and learn with each other.
- Champion the success of every team member.
- Demonstrate leadership without regard to position or title, embrace responsibility, take risks, make decisions and act to over come challenges.
- Strive for continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate passion for our mission.
- Recognize the value of partnerships and how our success happens both here and in our face-to-face encounters.
- Stretch and develop our capacity and that of others to use this virtual space to achieve extraordinary results.
Goals
- Establish an online community of practice (wiki) to support translating noble intentions into wise choices
- Increase efficiency and promote more effective use of resources to improve customer service
- Increase the ability of customers and potential customers to maintain their dignity by engaging them in all aspects of agency work
- Create more opportunities for cross agency collaboration
- Become even more proactive in our interaction with customers thus reducing crisis management situations
- Infuse a prevention focus in all SRS policies and strategic plans through a strategic learning partnership
- Support the ongoing identification and documentation of prevention programs to feed a comprehensive, searchable inventory of
prevention programs
- Support prevention initiative members as they model a commitment to a prevention focus in their work
- Promote and support a prevention perspective among all SRS employees; celebrate successes
History
(From the initial Wiki Home Page) There's probably as many ways to describe the Kansas Prevention Initiative as there are people in it. Like the story of the blind men and the elephant, everyone has a perspective and all have contributed (and continue) to develop the Initiative. Our beginnings germinated from an idea into a small movement that is gaining momentum as we cultivate wisdom, inquiry, knowledge and insight. This WIKI is another step in our collaborative learning process. The term WIKI is short for WIKI WIKI which means "quick" in Hawaiian AND as we worked to establish this web space, we made a surprising discovery. The letters in the word WIKI also correspond to the fundamental organizing capacity model used to establish and nurture the Kansas Prevention Initiative -- Wisdom, Inquiry, Knowledge, and Insight. So it is with learning and development - another both/and discovery.
The Initiative also relied on a learning template, conducted an assessment, developed a report and recommendations , and as a result the Initiative is expanding again. This WIKI is intended to serve as a collaborative web space to draft, document, develop, edit, communicate, AND share information, resources, ideas, and happenings of the initiative. All pages have an [edit] button on the top right where you can click and edit the page as you wish. You can also add pages, pictures, links and more. We've created a practice page for you to give it a try before you venture into other areas. There's also information about this wiki explantions about WIKIs and how to edit to support you. To practice, go to the Wiki Sandbox.
